What is Righteous Anger?
Does God get angry? Can we get angry at someone who sins against God?
Numbers 32:10 makes it clear that God does get angry. Christians call it righteous anger because it so different from what the world knows as anger. In Numbers 32 most of the Israelites sinned by not exercising faith in God’s Word. What happened then? Numbers 32:10 “And the Lord’s anger was kindled the same time” God was angry at the situation and how the Israelites behaved, but He still loved them as people. He loved them so much that He worked with them for the next 40years to teach and help them to change the behavior that led to their problems. Jesus also serves as our example (1 Peter 2:21). In Luke 23:34 the Bible tell us that When Jesus was dying on the cross and people were blaspheming Him, He prayed, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” Jesus’ attitude is the same one we should have towards people who do wrong. Even though He was angry at certain situations or decisions that people made, He always loved them, even until death. When we see sin, it is all right to disagree and to be upset with what happened. It is important, however, to remember that we shouldn’t be angry at the person who sinned. Many times people don’t realize the seriousness of what they are doing. And even when we come across those who sin purposefully, we should still follow God’s example by loving the sinner and not the sin. Amen.
